Epilogue

Posted in Ofis talk on October 7, 2009 by naziah

When one book ended. A new one is on the way.

This is my last and final post from my seat here in the office. Today is actually my last working day with American Express. 7 years working for the same company proved that it is indeed an excellent company.

I don’t usually get too sentimental about leaving. The last time I cried leaving a place was back in 1995 when we ended our College life in TKC. The crying was unavoidable as I was leaving not only my home of 5 years, but also leaving the people who I eat, sleep, learned, played, breathed, grew up with.

This is equally the same. When you are in the presence of the same people for 7 years, even if you don’t see them day and night, you just feel like you lost a huge chunk of your life. I sent a ‘Thank You’ note to everyone in the company. I didn’t feel like saying goodbye. Because this isn’t goodbye. It just means that we don’t get to see each other often, but we will meet up outside of the office…

Unbroken happiness is a bore. It should have ups and downs.

So far so good… AirAsia didn’t screw up the timing. The flight was BAD because of the weather. The taxi ride from the airport to the office was killing me because the uncle didn’t kno where Comtech is and started telling me about his life story. He even showed me that he got no teeth… All that he’s got was his gums… No teeth… Just gums… And he drove like 10km/jam. I feel like asking him to drive as if he is running after his long lost teeth…

It was raining a bit this morning and now, it’s 12.27noon, the weather lloks fine. I’m waiting for my boss to take me out for lunch. The new office? Fantastic! Their pantry looks like an ikea advert lah! So jeles… I’ll take a picture of the espresso machine (if they still have it). And they have a vending machine with all the nice minuman. Sigh… Maybe I can steal some milo 3 in 1… The milo 3 in 1 is free by the way… So I should just take a whole bunch and bring that back to you nice people in The Weld.

Okla… I have pretend to be busy now… My flight back is at 7.10pm. Hopefully there’s no delay…

Contemplating…

… about;

  • whether or not I should go to Singapore next week. I plan to go for a day trip to visit the ofis there… Won’t cost that much pun. The flight (unfortunately by Air Asia) is only RM158 (to and fro)…
  • I wanna go back to KK this month or next… Just looking for the cheapest seat I could get.
  • which book to read… I have a few ‘pending’ books which I bought during pregnancy and haven’t read any yet (which includes New Moon, Sisterhood of the travelling pants part 4… etc…).
  • should I go back half day and work from home today? I have this crazy sakit tekak – coughing marathon going on. I think everyone in the ofis are scared of me. I might lick their mugs when they go out for lunch so that everyone will have sore throat as well. Roll la your eyes… I WILL lick your mugs!
  • whether I should watch Boys Over Flower (the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden) online or wait for the DVD…

Ozone layer semakin nipis and I have THOSE issues in my head…

I will lick your mugs!!!

I will lick your mugs!!!

Too much to do. Too little time to do it. So I leave you with this:

IMO, he was and still the best Superman ever… I will update my blog again, once I’m done with all my reports… And yes Cat/Shanky, I DO HAVE THINGS TO DO.

Back to work… For 2 days only…

Look at that… Very hardworking… Full of concentration, as well as full of s**t… Heheheh… After a week of pain, here’s what I observed:

  • More work to finish in 2 days time before I go back KK
  • My secret santa gift for my department.
  • My taste for coffee.
  • I’m never eating porridge again until Q2 of next year!
  • I don’t like ice-cream… True… Very true…
  • Biskut is my staple food now.
  • I no longer need to eat rice everyday.
  • Most importantly, I’ve lost 3kg in a week… Not a good way to do it but nontheless, the impact is excellent!

I will write more once I’m done with my work…

It’s just one of those days…

… when you have too much to do and you don’t feel like it. I’m on a strike with my ownself! It’s been two hours since I sat here and do nothing. What’s on my agenda today?

  • 2 meetings
  • Calls to evaluate
  • Calls to record
  • Do my report

I’ve decided to only do the meetings and evaluate the calls (since I have to finish it by today). The other 2 things, I’ll just leave it for tomorrow… or whenever…

—> I no longer am on strike. Just had 2 HUGE cups of kopi and a medium size coke. And I just finished a whole bar of 70% cocoa dark chocolate… (Cat, do not come anywhere near me today… You will not be able to handle the sugar-high-aura)…

Introducing Captain Jackie Sparrow and her crews…

dsc00507.jpg Only 1 crew member… Heheheheh…

Finally, I managed to go to the annual dinner. Food was okay but too slow (by 10.30pm, we have yet to eat rice!). The entertainmant was great (the paper dolls are excellent! some of them are really pretty). The Amex Idol was fun (I thought Su Yin could actually win the thing. Benny, if you are reading, you are a performer. The second song was not very good tho. But you kno I love you, kan?! heh). Shamsul, why were you so nervous?

Anyways, that’ll be the first and last time I’m going to any company’s social event. It’s not my cuppa tea…

So we are having a masquerade party…

Posted in Ofis talk on November 15, 2007 by naziah

The theme for our annual dinner this year… I won’t be able to compare the dinners since this will be my FIRST annual dinner with the company. What? You thought I’ve worked in Amex since I was little? Yes I did… I just didn’t go for any annual dinners… So this year, I’m making an effort to look good for the party (stop laughing Cat… You’ll be sitting right next to me…).

So what is a MASQUERADE party? According to Wikipedia, it is a something, something party, with something, something costume, and a mask… To sum up, it’s a costume party with a mask. Our annual dinner committee doesn’t allow any superhero mask (I wanted to wear Mikael’s ultraman mask… Shikes!). And we are not supposed to look like an escapee from a halloween party (Cat, you have to cross out that leather cat suit that you were thinking of wearing). Hmmm… What am I supposed to wear? Everything I own looks like a halloween costume. Sigh…

Thinking about all this makes me feel like NOT going. I know Boo and Fify will be angry. They got me a kewl mask to supposedly go with my costume (I was thinking of wearing a suit instead of a dress…)… Susah sangat, I’ll come as Ninja KPG (Kain-Pelikat-Girl)… Heh… So people… There’s still chance that I might back out and stay at home watching TV. But since some of my frens will be singing that nite, I’ll be there to support (or laugh) at them.

I’ve got Monday Blues…

Posted in Ofis talk on November 5, 2007 by naziah

Let’s start the day with a big fat SIGH… The weather is soooooooo good for sleeping in until at least 10 am! I’ve been saying this but mother nature has got SOMETHING against me! When it’s my off days, it will be so hot that by 8am, I have to roll UNDER my bed to get less sunlight!!!! Sigh… So I’ve decided… Today, I’m just gonna be lazy@work

I leave you with my favourite comic strip:

What do I do for a living?

Posted in Ofis talk on November 1, 2007 by naziah

I get this question a lot! I think most of my friends (outside office circle) don’t know where I’m working and what is it that I’m doing. Not that I’m not proud of the company, but I never really talk about ofis stuff with my friends or families.

So, what exactly am I doing? First and foremost, I work with AMERICAN EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL based in Menara Weld. The reason why it’s called Amex International is because the Malaysia bit of it has been taken over by Maybank. So whatever we have in Menara Weld, is all overseas based services. My job? I’m a Quality Analyst. I do quality audit for our Credit Department Singapore. Yes… The team is based Singapore and I’m in KL. Yes… It is possible. Everything is possible now. Thanks to technical advances… What do I do? I listen to calls, check it if it’s up to standard, check the procedures and update, and give feedback when necessary. I actually just started this job in August. I was in a different department previously (a ‘funner’ department to be in – Ste, if you are reading this, I have too many grudges with the recording procedure. Heheheh…).

Clear enough? And NO, I do not take any Amex card applications. For that, you have to go thru Maybank. Another interesting fact about my job; my boss is based in Sydney. I do not have a boss in KL… :-p
