Prejudice?

I’m very particular about 2 things in life; my coffee and my hair…

Coffee must be strong and not sweet and should you decide to put milk, either you get a non dairy creamer (please don’t put Nespray powder milk!) or you put fresh milk (or low fat) in it. It ain’t gonna taste like coffee if you put 5 spoons of sugar! And my hair… Oh! My hair!!!! It’s the only good thing about my physicality. I don’t have long legs to be proud of. And I battle with Psoriasis for God knos how long (and now it covers like 60% of my body… Which I don’t really care about…). So my hair is my favourite thing about me…

So… Last Saturday, I went for my usual massage (I go to this fantastic Thai Massage place in Sunway Pyramid; AROKAYA… I’ll tell about the place more later.) and wanted to get a haircut + hair treatment. I usually get my hair done in KK. The hairdresser (Maggie), back there is excellent and she doesn’t mind my Psoriasis at all. Some people might not be familliar with the condition and might be scared to do anything to my head in case they hurt the skin. Let me just tell you guys, IT IS NOT PAINFUL. And it does not spread to those who touch it either… Back to Maggie… What I love about Maggie is that, she rarely ask me what I want to do with my hair. I sit, she shampoo, put treatment, color it and cut it the best way she feels suits me. I love my hair short and clean. The shorter the better but not too short until I look like an 8 year old boy. That’s why I say I’m very particular about my hair. You cut it wrong, I’ll look like a boy. you cut it right, I’ll look like Sofea Jane or Winona Ryder.

So what’s all the fuss about on this beautiful Monday morning? After my massage session, I went to A Cut Above and decided I’ll give them a try since they are so well known for haircuts. And I was already WILLING to pay the extra $$$ for a Senior Stylist or even Winnie Loo herself to cut my hair for me. So I waited at their counter for someone to come and serve me. And I waited… And I waited… And I waited… They seemed to be busy that day but not even one of they stylist or shampoo person even stop and ask me if I needed any service. Is it because I wear tudung? Or because I was wearing my ugly Mickey Mouse t-shirt with my track pants (I live like 10 seconds from Sunway… Why bother dressing up????? It’s like going to a kedai runcit for me…)? After 10 minutes of standing unnoticed, I cursed and left… Not long after that, I decided to pass by the place again and saw 2 people attending this very well dressed looking lady who was carrying an Coach bag (which I think is a fake… How I kno? When you have a few Coach bags, you tend to be very familliar with the buckles and the leather… Big mistake!)… So now I kno, in order for me to get any kind of service in well known establishment, I must wear branded stuff. Too bad… There will never be a ‘next time’ there. I’d rather pay RM1000 to take a flight back to KK and get my hair done by Maggie…
